Finals Stress?

End of semester stress?

Dealing with it effectively will help you be healthy (and happy!)

  1. Know what stresses you.

This is different for all people. Perhaps you study better alone rather than in a group or you prefer early mornings while your roommate sleeps until noon. The first step in being able to address a problem is identifying it. Avoid or modify things which stress you as much as possible.

  1. Make a Plan.

Prioritize your to-do list and establish goals. Checking them off the list provides a sense of accomplishment and instills confidence which will get you through.

  1. Take care of your body while your mind is at work.

Eat healthy foods regularly (at least one protein and one fruit or vegetable with each meal). Breakfast IS important to place fuel in the tank (even if it’s a power bar). This not only provides energy but also may help speed metabolism and help prevent weight gain.

Drink water. Hydration is important. If you don’t like water, try to stick with decaffeinated beverages.

Sleep. Planning for this in step two above is critical. Although it feels like there is no time to sleep, you will be far more productive during your waking hours if you get enough sleep.

Breathe. When it is all overwhelming you, step away, take two deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth then get back at it. You’ll be amazed at how good you feel!

  1. Learn to say “no.” Nobody can do it all, so don’t try.
  2. Ask for help.

College life can be crazy! If you find you are struggling and need help…ASK. Talk to a friend, family member, staff or faculty member. If that doesn’t help, seek professional assistance at the Counseling and Student Development Center (570-577-1604) or Bucknell Student Health (570-577-1401).
